Why Goluk T3 is an Excellent Choice for Parking Security Recording

Parking your car on the street is not always safe – hit and runs, accessory thefts and vandalism are commonplace in many cities around the world. This is where a dash cam with parking security capabilities comes in handy. However, not all dash cams that have this function are perfectly suitable for this particular use. In this article, we’ll introduce the basics of parking security and tell you why Goluk T3 is one of the best dash cams out there to be used for parking mode video recording.

What is Parking Security Recording?

Parking security capability allows a dash cam to shoot videos when the car is parked. Most dash cams do not have a built-in battery and rely on drawing power from car’s cigarette lighter for video recording. This means that the dash cam is able to operate as long as the ignition is on. To extend the dash cam’s recording capability regardless of whether your car is on or off, you can wire it directly to the car’s battery through the fuse box. To ensure your battery is not drained by video recording, some dash cams manufacturers introduce video recording modes that allow saving energy consumption and storage space. For instance, here is how Goluk T3’s parking video recording mode works:

Once you enable parking security mode in the settings, T3, like other dash cams from T-series, will use it’s vibration sensors to identify whether the car is moving or parked. If it is detected that the car has been stationary for 5 minutes, the dash cam will automatically go into parking security mode:

-Looping video mode will be disabled

-Motion sensor will be enabled

-Power saving mode will be turned on

The above means that, when the car is parked, T3’s sensors will use its power to detect movement or vibration (i.e. someone walking near or shaking/banging on your car) and record 16-seconds’ long videos of the event.

Why is Goluk T3 fit to be a parking security dash cam?

1. Motion Detection

As mentioned above, Goluk’s motion detection helps save videos triggered by motion detected by the dashcam. The video is automatically locked on the SD card, so it will not get overwritten when the SD card gets full.

2. Vibration Detection

G-Sensor allows the dash cam to trigger video recording if vibration occurs. This means that video recording does not solely rely on the motion detection setting, which can be limited despite the camera’s wide view angle.

With the upcoming firmware update for T3, you will be able to disable the “motion detection” setting. This is helpful if your car is parked in a busy parking lot, video will not be triggered by every car or person passing by. T3’s flexibility leaves lots of room to choose optimal recording settings.

3. Power Efficiency

Goluk T3 is very energy efficient for a single lens camera. It’s power supply is 0.1A in parking security mode, which helps to save your car’s battery.

4. Super-capacitor

Compared to T1 and T2, as well as many other dash cams, T3 uses a super-capacitor as opposed to lithium ion battery. The main purpose of super-capacitor is to save videos in cases of power cuts and, compared to lithium ion batteries, super-capacitors are less susceptible to wear and tear, especially with changes in temperature.

How to hardwire a dashcam to your car’s battery

In order to hardwire a dashcam, you would need a voltage regulator cable AKA a hardwire kit. We recommend enlisting professional help for installation and connecting the dashcam to the car’s battery as not every car is the same. However, there are some useful video guides on YouTube showing the installation process in details.

What is the main difference between parking sleep mode and parking security mode? the first one says to use it if you have an "always-on" cigarette lighter. And I do. But, when I'm going through my videos, it only records for about the stated 20 minutes before going fully to sleep. I have tested what would happen if someone walks by or by dancing in front of my car once it goes to sleep and it DOES NOT capture that. So basically, if someone were to come up to my car after the 20 minutes and say, spill something or is just looking into my car, it will not capture them. The parking security mode offers the motion detection option which I think is better, but I don't use it because the app recommends to use the other feature. I have not tested this security feature out yet, but I will. I worry because I park in downtown areas all the time and I want to make sure when people parallel park, they don't accidentally hit my car.

Hello, the sleep mode means parking security is not recorded. It is used to protect your car if your cigarette lighter always provides power (even when the engine is off). If you would like to use parking security mode, pleas enable parking security mode in the settings. Motion detection switch is useful if you're parked in a busy parking mode, it is used to avoid constant triggering of the motion sensor.

Hello. I'm very happy with the T3. I have a question: what events "wake up" the camera after going in parking sleep mode? I tried to disconnect it from the cigarette lighter and then reconnect it but the camera didn't restart to record images, it kept to be in sleep mode and I drove 3km in the city traffic.

        Thanks

Hi. Thank you for purchasing Goluk and sorry to hear that you’re experiencing a problem with it. Will you please try to set the G-sensor to high to try if it could go for loop recording instead of sleep mode after the car starts. Thanks.

Hello, thanks for your message. The dash cam has the parking security mode. You could purchase a hard wire kit besides the dash cam.as a means of video recording and using the footage as a proof of crime.4 minutes after the car parks, Goluk dashcam will activate vibration and motion detection mode, which means 16s videos will be recorded and saved( 8s before and 8 after the impact occurs). Thanks.

If your cig lighter is always ON, you can do 2 things,.
1st, in parking sensor mode without the Motion detector ON. This will only activate the vibration mode G sensor. Any motion it will not record but records only upon vibration or some bump into your car.

2nd in parking sensor mode with the Motion detector ON. Means any vibration or motion within that 150degrees angle will be recorded.
This is a better explanation from the previous one from GOLUK.

I recently purchased and installed a Goluk T3 today 3-9-18 in my 2018 Chrysler 300 and plugged it in to a constant power supply. I connected it to the wi-fi tested the unit and watched the live video on my android also pressed the remote button and it took a video and seems to be working. I set it to parking security mode at the end of the day with the motion detector on and G sensor sensitivity to high.
Went out to my car at dusk and saw the red light flashes on the front of the goluk camera, walked in front of the car side to side and knock hard on the windshield and fender and it does not record anything at all !!!
All the features in setting are turned on. Is there something else suppose to be on or off ? or is my unit defective ?
    Thanks,
    John

You would need to disable motion detection if, for example, you are parked in a crowded Parking lot.TO save space on your SD card.Since there are no sensors on the car itself, the vibration should be strong enough to trigger the dash cam's G-sensor.

Yes, you are right. If car parks in a crowded street, it's better to turn off the motion detection so when people walk through the car it will no record.
